Just As I Thought

Today I read another article about the Raelians, the strange bunch who claim to have cloned a child and they’ll prove it – but not by a DNA test, and not right now. Later. They promise.
Anyway, they also claim to have 40,000 members of their… group. I found that claim very interesting. I work for a national association of social studies teachers, and we have 26,000 members – and that number is stretching, including institutions – libraries and schools.
It seems as if every oddball cult or strange “religion” based on alien intelligence has more members that we do. Is it because we tend to prefer level headed, intelligent people as our members, and there are fewer about? Is it because we charge too little to join? Perhaps we should be advertising in Weekly World News?
I wonder if the Raelians will sell us their mailing list…
