Just As I Thought

The end is nigh?

There is a rumor here in the D.C. area, evidently spreading through the government contracting community, that the government has specific information that there will be a detonation of some kind of chemical weapon tomorrow in the nation’s capital area. People within a 50 mile radius will be affected. They also say that by tomorrow, the threat level will be raised to red.
The last thing I needed to hear. Should I be packing the car right now and driving south? I have no doubt that if something should happen, I would not be able to get very far. The roads here are jam-packed on a good day, I can’t imagine how impassable they would be after an attack. (It took me 3 hours to get home on Sept 11. It didn’t help that I was heading toward the Pentagon instead of away from it. I live a few miles from it.) My father advises me that if I was at work, I should keep going north. But I don’t know if I could make that decision to go and leave my dog and 2 cats to fend for themselves. I almost think it would feel like leaving my children behind.
I’d rather not think about it. If something happens, I’ll have to trust my instincts, I guess.
