Just As I Thought

The Plaza Hotel: We’ll Leave the Light On For You

I’m watching an episode of the BBC sitcom “As Time Goes By.” In this episode, three characters book a room at the Plaza Hotel and fly via Concorde to New York, just to watch the premiere of a miniseries written by the main character.
Cut to the Plaza Hotel: the set is that of a regular old modern hotel room, with non of the graciousness of the Plaza. I notice that a light in the background seems to be flickering… no, it’s a pulsing… oh, my. They’ve put a flashing red light out the window to evoke the feeling of a sleazy motel.
Wait… what’s that I hear?
They’ve overlaid sound effects of sirens on the street outside the Plaza.

Well, I guess we know what they think of New York, eh?
