Last minute Apple anticipation…

Hmm. It turns out that Apple is also holding an event at the BBC tomorrow, the same day as the anxiously awaited “Just one more thing…” event here in San Jose. This interesting development has, of course, reopened speculation that Apple will be releasing a video device of some sort — again, that speculation is centered on a video iPod, but frankly I just don’t see that.
I tend to think of myself as a barometer of Apple’s ideas. And in this case, if they released a video-capable iPod I just wouldn’t bite. What would you do with it? Where would you sit and watch video in your iPod, even with, say, a PSP-sized screen? Frankly, I’m astonished that studios are releasing movies for the Playstation portable. Who in the world is buying them, and why would you want to watch a feature film on a tiny little LCD screen when you could be watching it on a decent sized TV screen, on a couch, with a soda or something?
I don’t see this as being a viable product in the long run, and I suspect that Steve Jobs agrees. That said, what about something that uses your TV? Now that, I can see — especially with an Apple interface. If only Apple would make a DVR that would release me from the horror of the Comcast unit…
