Just As I Thought

Nostalgic for ads

Isn’t it funny how we romanticize the past? For instance, I was just remarking the other day about how commercials just annoy the hell out of me, and I skip them with a vengeance; the beautiful dragon commercial for United Airlines during the Olympics was all the more striking because there are so few good ads these days. We’re bombarded by quantity, not quality.
Then I came across these ads that I had saved on disc years ago — not decades ago, but just a few years. I liked them, and wish they’d come back.

  • Those are cute, but I have to admit I liked the earlier kooky Old Navy ads with Morgan Fairchild.

There was an ealier cartoon ad for an airline, maybe it was United too? It was a sketchy drawn one about a guy flying off to a job interview… at one point his dog is watching him as he gets ready to leave. There was something strangely poignant about the whole thing that had me almost in tears by the end. How pathetic am I?

  • I’ve always loved those dance-y Gap ads, and the “West Side Story” themed ones too. Thanks for posting the IKEA ones; I hadn’t seen those before.
