Just As I Thought

Patio Spy

My webcams have always been very intermittent, because they are based on my regular working computers which are turned off and on or may not always be connected to the webserver. But since my webserver sits in a closet at the back of the house, I began to wonder… why not run a line through the wall and attach the camera directly to the server, where it would be on 24/7?

So that’s what I’ve done. My iSight is now living on the back of my house, under the eaves where it should be safe from rain — but not from wasps, so I’ll have to keep an eye on that. It’s pointed down at my patio, but since it doesn’t have a very wide angle lens one can’t see the rest of the backyard greenery. No matter, it’s still pretty to look at, and will be prettier when the Japanese Cherry tree on the left is in full bloom.
I’ve also enabled a live feed, so instead of just one snapshot every so often, you can watch live! Fun, huh? Click “Watch Live” over there at the top of the sidebar.
I don’t know what there is to see in my backyard all day, but I’m sure as heck gonna find out now. Wherever I am, I can spy on my patio. And so can you.
There’s a scary thought.
