Just As I Thought

More proof that John McCain is addled

Hours after the worst shooting rampage in U.S. history, John McCain had this to say:

(04-16) 17:55 PDT Laredo, Texas (AP) —
Sen. John McCain says the shooting rampage at Virginia Tech does not change his view that the Constitution guarantees everyone the right to carry a weapon.
“We have to look at what happened here, but it doesn’t change my views on the Second Amendment, except to make sure that these kinds of weapons don’t fall into the hands of bad people,” McCain said Monday in response to a question.
The Arizona Republican, who was campaigning in this Texas-Mexico border city, said he didn’t know the details of the attacks at Virginia Tech.
“I do believe in the constitutional right that everyone has, in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, to carry a weapon,” he said. “Obviously we have to keep guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens.”

It’s not his views are crazy, it’s that he should have kept those views to himself for at least a day. He and Bush both broached this subject shortly after the tragedy, both obviously too dumb to realize that their comments were ill-advised so soon; they could have simply given platitudes like everyone else.
I’m afraid that the second amendment is there to stay; outlawing guns would be pretty ridiculous considering that there are so many out there and criminals are unlikely to obey the law; that said, when Republicans start in on their rhetoric saying that we need to “make sure that these kinds of weapons don’t fall into the hands of bad people” I tend to throw things. After having the entire government locked in their control for more than a decade, what did the Republicans do to make sure that bad people didn’t get weapons? Not a damn thing. In fact, they presided over the expiration and dismantling of many important gun laws. One of them restricted ammunition clips to 10 bullets. They let that law expire, and now it is easier for a “bad person” to pump dozens of bullets out without having to reload. How efficient!

  • Hi Gene,

I’m a stranger visiting your site, off a dead-end google search. I wanted to comment that your page is the most narcissistic blog/webpage i’ve ever read.

That said, almost every one of your entries (read: complaints) is worthy of the same criticism you dish out. It’s more than irksome to read that unproductive, moral-masturbatory, bad journalism!

Sorry for the harsh words, but I think you need a break/change from whatever you are doing.

    Just my 20.

    Jose

  • Well, “Jose”…

if this is the most narcissistic blog you’ve ever read, I can only assume that this is the FIRST blog you’ve ever read. Additionally, it seems that your condemnation of my blog is based only on this one entry, because it’s clear that you haven’t read all 4,621. I mean, at the time of writing the front page included a story about Doctor Who, my garden, Bill Cosby, the Knight Rider car, trees, and an earthquake. None of which contain any criticism of anybody.

The thing is, this blog is 100% personal opinion, and is not — and never has been — portrayed as anything else. It’s certainly never been in any way journalistic. How productive does anyone expect a personal blog to be?

That said, unlike many, many other websites and blogs — especially those with a political bent — I have no intention of censoring or deleting your comment. Now you have published an unproductive, moral-masturbatory entry yourself.
