Just As I Thought

Daylight Becomes Electrical

I don’t want to make any comments about the intelligence of those from Arkansas — after all, Bill Clinton was an Arkansan, FedEx founder Fred Smith and Wal*Mart founder Sam Walton are from there, both obviously quite intelligent.
That said, while I generally steer clear of criticism of people who aren’t public figures, I have to bring your attention to this letter, written by Connie Meskimen — who I am sure is lovely.

That said, while I generally steer clear of criticism of people who aren’t public figures, I have to bring your attention to this letter, written by Connie Meskimen — who I am sure is lovely. From the April 16, 2007 Arkansas Democrat Gazette, headline typo included:

Daylight exacerbates warning
You may have noticed that March of this year was particularly hot. As a matter of fact, I understand that it was the hottest March since the beginning of the last century. All of the trees were fully leafed out and legions of bugs and snakes were crawling around during a time in Arkansas when, on a normal year, we might see a snowflake or two.
This should come as no surprise to any reasonable person. As you know, Daylight Saving Time started almost a month early this year. You would think that members of Congress would have considered the warming effect that an extra hour of daylight would have on our climate. Or did they?
Perhaps this is another plot by a liberal Congress to make us believe that global warming is a real threat. Perhaps next time there should be serious studies performed before Congress passes laws with such far-reaching effects.
CONNIE M. MESKIMEM

Please, please, please — someone tell me that this is a hoax or a joke.
I’m not even going to point out the hilarity woven into this letter, I’m sure you’re intelligent enough to find the various guffaws.

Update: Looks like it is a joke… but like the best jokes, it is just plausible enough to make it funny.
