Saw this on Boing Boing this morning: a ridiculous machine at the airport that takes advantage of security theatre to charge users huge sums for mailing their contraband items home. The commentary rightly lambasts this stupidity, but misses what I think is an important point, illustrating the silliness of the TSA’s rules: while lighters are classified as “hazardous,” a knife is marked non-hazardous!

I love the fact that there are people out there who have lighters that are somehow worth more than to them are worth at least $9.99.
