“We’re witnessing the capture by fanatics of what was once a great and important American political party.” I know plenty of Republicans, including in my own family. Some have abandoned the GOP, others haven’t but they just don’t agree with these crazy, intolerant, divisive politics. It’s simple: the Republican party cultivated a fanatical base for so long that those fanatics now own the party.
