This was not an issue when I was a Boy Scout — at least, it wasn’t to us. But then, that was before the organization was hijacked and taken over by religious organizations. Now, the Boy Scouts is church-driven, and how dare anyone protest their faith-based right to discriminate!
“Those type of people were not welcomed here,” said the park gatekeeper. “If you come back and bring those type of people, you will be removed from the park.”
Tell me again how the current civil rights fight is not the same as those in the past. [via Richmond Register]
A supremely practical politician, Barney once worried that gay marriage was reaching too far and expecting too much from the political system. But he changed and so did we. We came to understand that Barney, like many other gay friends, wanted the same things that straight couples were searching for: a hand to hold, a heart to share.

Good on ya, Cokie & Steve.

“Despite gains by gays in the wider culture, especially in the entertainment industry, and despite the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the civil rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people in most states are deteriorating, White said.”
The article takes a look at Virginia — it’s no surprise that many gay friends I knew back in Virginia have, like me, moved to California in the last decade.
AHA: this says it all. Marriage equality is a threat to the CHURCH, not to marriage, not to society, not to children, not to anything but the power structure as it has been for centuries.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t think a church — a CHURCH — should be hanging ANYONE in effigy. What would Jesus say to that, do you think?

The Family Research Council just honored NC Pastor Ron Baity with its 2012 Watchman Award, its top “pro-family” award and highest honor.
Baity has called gays “worse than maggots”, compared them to murderers, wants to ‘save’ them, claims gay people make society more filthy, says gays are “not normal” and embrace a “learned lifestyle”, says gays promote “perversion” in schools and are signing “America’s death warrant”, and other choice gems.

Okay, last “depressing” post today:
Members of Providence Road Baptist Church are standing behind Pastor Charles Worley and the sermon he delivered earlier this month calling for the elimination of the gay population.
Providence Road Baptist Church member Stacey Pritchard said Worley’s message isn’t one of hate. Instead, she interpreted it as tough love guided by Good Book.

I have always wondered why Colin Powell aligned himself with the right.
The wife of the state senator who authored Amendment One, North Carolina’s anti-gay marriage constitutional amendment that would write discrimination into their constitution, says her husband wrote the bill “to protect the caucasian race,” according to a reporter and poll workers present. GLAAD is calling on Clear Channel and Cleveland radio station WMMS to suspend radio personality Dominic Dieter for telling a father to essentially arrange for his daughter to be raped if he suspects she’s gay.
