Just As I Thought

Poppin’ pansy

Last night, for the first time ever, I made Jiffy Pop — you know, that popcorn that comes in a little pan with the foil on top?
You should have seen me, shaking it back and forth while at the same time trying to keep away from it. I’m skittish enough around fire without a thin foil starting to expand and expand, I just knew that it was going to explode and I’d be in the emergency room with a freak popcorn injury.

  • Maybe it’s a generational thing but I still love making Jiffy Pop. When I was a kid, it was pure magic…

  • I still use the popcorn pan with the blade at the bottom and you turn the crank to rotate the blade. And the hinged lid that opens on either side for pouring. Makes the best popcorn ever.

Jiffy Pop only works well if you have a gas stove and can control the heat. The electric burners cool too slowly and you almost always end up scortching the popcorn.

And if you have exploding popcorn fears I would suggest you remove the movie Real Genius from your netflicks que.
