Just As I Thought

Water Discovered on Earth

People never cease to amaze me.
The top story here in the Bay Area this morning is — wait for it — rain.
Hype, breathless terror, team coverage… it all reminds me of what happens back home in DC when it snows.
It’s wet! The water is falling from the SKY!
There is a broken pipe somewhere in San Francisco, and this is worthy of long detailed reports on the morning news. Frankly, the pictures are rather pretty — water cascading down some windy steps, down the hill like it was an intentional water feature.
The vast majority of the damage is to cars. Cars are flipped over, cars are stuck in deep water… and all of these mini-disasters are the fault of drivers. If it is raining hard, why are you driving so fast? Why did you take that corner at 50mph? If you see that an underpass is flooded, why did you attempt to drive through it?
They are making a huge deal out of the rain, calling it a huge storm.
A small storm back home involves lightning strikes, hail, damaging winds, and sometimes microbursts. Frankly, they’re wimps here.
They love drama here. I can’t do anything but shake my head at it all.
