Just As I Thought

A violin for Trent

I’m sitting here listening to Trent Lott’s continuing apology and desperate damage control. He is giving us a complete life story, telling of his life struggles, the difficult circumstances of his childhood, the sharecropping life, his faith, etc. etc. etc.
Despite all this, I feel certain that he has never had a cross burned on his lawn, nor has he or anyone in his family been found hanging from a tree.
His self-imposed penance for being a long time civil rights foe is to voluntarily consult with various representatives from black groups. Well, thank goodness that’s all over, and he will now be a completely perfect, moral person.
