It’s the American way – in our offices, our streets, and our wars. Make a huge mess then let someone else clean it up.
A Washington Post-ABC News poll released today has many bewildering examples of the uninformed and reactionary opinions of a majority of Americans. Who the hell did they poll for this? (Margin of sampling error is 3%.)
- 64% approve of the way Bush is handling his presidency.
- Yet, only 47% approve of the way he is handling the economy.
- Only 45% approve of the budget.
- 74% approve of the “war on terrorism,” even though there has been no apparent movement on that front in some time. I guess no news is good news.
- 49% are satisfied and 49% are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the US at this time. (And he is still so popular?!)
- North Korea, a country that has weapons of mass destruction and a psychotic leader, worries 33% of those polled. Iraq, where evidence of WMD has yet to surface, worries 56%.
- 28% believe that the economy is good. 72% believe that it is poor. (And he is still so popular?)
Now the truly sad statistic:
- 66% favor US military action in Iraq.
- 50% favor military action without UN backing.
- 63% believe that the administration has provided enough evidence. (If this were any US court, the hearsay and circumstantial evidence provided would not be enough to convict.)
- 55% believe that evidence shows that Iraq is providing direct support to al Queda! (What evidence? Bush’s gut feeling?)
- 65% think we should work to rebuild and stabilize Iraq after the war.
- But… if it means that the US spends a billion dollars a year and places troops there, only 37% think we should rebuild. (Assholes. Let’s destroy another country then pull out and let them all starve in a devastated region.)
Whenever I look at poll results, it shocks me. People don’t seem to be able to think in this country. They can’t connect the dots. The economy is in the toilet and they think the president is just great. They want to go to war over little evidence because someday that country may be a threat, but they ignore threats that exist today. I am a proud American. But I’m not proud of Americans.
