Holy crap — here’s a story of a real idiot who shows exactly how intelligent some of those die-hard PC apologists can be. This brain trust got a dual processor Power Mac G5 for Christmas, and proceeded to rip out the components and use the case to build a PC:
“I got a shiny new Apple G5 for Christmas. I loved the case, but I’m no Mac user,” writes “Andy” on OverClockers.com. “So I rip out everything, cut out the back of the case so I can use a PC motherboard, and install an Athlon motherboard. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure G5 is a great computer, but I wanted a Dell for Christmas. I don’t have any programs for Apple and didn’t feel like waiting for them. I thought about selling it, but my parents would be upset with me. After all, this was a very expensive gift and it meant a lot to them to give to me.”
I can’t quite get my mind around someone who would rather have a piece of crap Dell for Christmas instead of the world’s fastest personal computer; I’m having even more trouble understanding how his parents would be less upset to see their $3000 investment in pieces on his bedroom floor rather than just taking it back for a refund.
Yup, some people are just morons.
Incidentally, just take a look at the pictures of this horrible mutilation. You’ll see one of the nicer things about the G5 — it’s clean and neat construction. Every component has a place and the inside of the computer is uncluttered and as classy as the outside. Compare that with the interior of a PC, including the one this guy built. In an era where most PC companies couldn’t care less how their box looks, it’s refreshing to see that Apple not only designs the outside, but takes care with the inside, too.
