I’ve been seeing ads for new online personals services a lot lately. First, there’s “Soulmatch,” which purports to match up people according to their values, spirituality, and beliefs. Those must be some really hot dates, eh? What’s most interesting about this site is that they are still in business… because there’s got to be a lawsuit coming from Match.com for stealing their look and feel. I mean, they even use the same graphics.
Then there’s some other site, the name of which escapes me for the moment, which is plastering the web with ads that lay out their philosophy: anyone who is married or an ex-con should be arrested if they place a personals ad. They claim to do background checks in some way to make sure these undesirables don’t get through. I wonder what personal information they’re insisting upon for registration? How in the world do they check to see if you are married? “Sure, I give out my social security number to anyone on the internet who asks.”
Yeah, I’ve seen those ads too. I think it’s True.com?
