New York City bore the much of the brunt from the September 11 terrorist attacks; it continues to have some of the highest profile targets. Wouldn’t it stand to reason that security would be a priority there?
Well, yesterday there was a fire in a subway tunnel which was started by a homeless man — get this — who wheeled a shopping cart filled with wood into the tunnel and set it on fire.
Evidently, anyone can just wheel a cart full of stuff into subway tunnels there. Note to potential terrorists: just steal a shopping cart, fill it with explosives or biological weapons, and dress yourself in layers of dirty clothing. Then just wander into the tunnel — heck, you don’t even have to pay the fare to get in.
The “C” train will now be out of service for up to five years to repair the damage. How long will it take to fix the security lapses?
