Here’s an example of the stupidity of large corporations: FedEx has sent a cease and desist letter to Jose Avila, a guy who’s created an apartment full of furniture using FedEx shipping boxes. He started a website showing off his work, and FedEx took exception to this. They’ve been using legally questionable threats, invoking the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. (Boy, is the DMCA ever a fantastic bit of legislation…)
What does FedEx expect to get out of this other than severely bad publicity? What geniuses are running that company?
Let me tell you what I would have done: I would have made a big publicity splash out of this guy’s project, plastered it everywhere, made a commercial with it, gone viral — here’s a FedEx customer who was so impressed by the strength of the company’s shipping materials that he made furniture out of it. And FedEx can’t find a way to make that into a publicity blitz?
It seems the suits at Fed Ex can’t think outside the box.
Well in light of my recent experience with FedEx… I say…
What can Brown do for you?
He should start switching to materials using UPS boxes instead!
