The choice was McDonald’s, very busy inside and drive-thru; a low-carb shop having a going-out-of-business sale (now that was a fad, wasn’t it?); and an almost deserted Popeye’s Fried Chicken. I opted for the place with the shortest line, Popeye’s.
I quickly divined why it was so empty. First, this particular Popeye’s — where a family dinner can set you back $39.99 — only accepts cash. No credit cards at all. They conveniently have one of those little no-name ATMs on premises, which charges a high fee.
Another example of how cheap this establishment is? They charge 25¢ for an extra packet of sauce.
Unlike every other place here — Starbucks included — there is no drive-thru.
While I was waiting for my chicken strips, I noted that one of the doors was blocked… by a booth, bolted to the floor and set right in front of the door. Not a place I’d want to be stuck in the event of fire or earthquake.
It ended up taking 10 minutes to get freakin’ chicken strips.
I guess that I should have been suspicious of their lack of business…
