We all knew that President Bush would quickly renominate John Roberts for the Chief Justice seat.
Why? Because in the absence of a Chief Justice, the most senior Associate Justice takes on the role. And who’s the most senior Associate Justice? John Paul Stevens, generally regarded as the most liberal justice.
