Futurama fans will think of Judge Whitey when they read this one: in a classic Friday news release, FEMA has announced that they’ve stopped giving Katrina victims debit cards. Instead, they’ll be direct-depositing money into their bank accounts.
JUDGE WHITEY: I’m told that bank accounts are places where poor people put money that’s not properly invested.
Bank accounts. You know, in those useless buildings that were flooded, without electricity, and without access to their banking records. Those buildings that are now far away from the account owners.
And sorry to burst your bubble, but not everyone — especially those with little or no income — has a bank account.
Why don’t they just cut a check and mail it to the victims’ destroyed houses?
This is another brilliant idea brought to you by an administration that doesn’t have a clue what ordinary people are like. (Remember Bush Sr.’s question about grocery store scanners?)
