Keep your nose clean

It seems like just yesterday when my credit was so screwed up — from not paying bills to letting others open accounts using my name — that I was getting calls from collectors and dreaded having to apply for any kind of credit, knowing it would be turned down.
I mended my ways 10 years ago, and for the last decade have carefully paid every bill on time (usually a little early), paid off my credit cards in full most months, and generally kept plugging away at it. And this week, all that careful attention has come to a stunning result: I have been approved by not one, but three mortgage companies for more than a half million dollars each to buy a new home. It’s shocking, it’s scary, and it’s true. My credit score has gone up about 270 points in the last decade, and I’m comfortably resting way up near the top of the scale. How strange it is, this combination of adult responsibility and the desire to buy expensive gadgets that I don’t need…
