Just As I Thought

All day, all night

I have just run out of hours in the day to blog about all the nonsense, scandal, and just plain bad behavior coming from the White House and other right-wing-controlled institutions in our government. I feel like I’m letting down the forces of good and honesty by not commenting, but I’m hopeful that you are finding out about this stuff on your own; thankfully there are plenty of other sources on the net — and strangely, in the main stream media — to tell you about these things.
Like the fact that White House press secretary Scott McClellan said “that’s accurate” when responding to a reporter who said that Karl Rove had been involved in the Plame scandal… but the White House official transcript claims that he said “I don’t think that’s accurate” and they’ve now asked other news services to change their transcripts… even though the video tape doesn’t lie.
Like the fact that Pat Robertson says that Pennsylvania voters have forsaken God by voting out “Intelligent Design” advocates from the school board… that Dover, Pennsylvania has rejected God and that “problems” may begin.
Like the fact that our military used white phosphorus against civilian targets in Iraq, a horrible incendiary weapon that literally dissolves skin.
Speaking of the military, let’s take a look on this Veterans Day at what the Republicans are actually doing for our armed forces, despite all their rhetoric about supporting the troops:

Republicans Voted Against Veterans’ Health Care FIVE TIMES This Year, Despite Warnings of Budget Shortfall. Before the Department of Veterans Affairs announced a $1 billion budget shortfall earlier this year, Senate Republicans voted twice against $1.98 billion for veterans’ health care, while also opposing a proposal to increase veterans’ health care funding by $2.8 billion. And last month, Republicans said “no” to keeping veterans’ health care funding in line with inflation and population growth. These votes all came despite at least five warnings from Sen. Patty Murray that the proposed federal funding for veterans’ programs would not be enough to cover costs. [Vote #89, 4/12/05; Vote #90, 4/12/05; Vote #55, 3/16/05; Vote #251, 10/5/05; CQ Today, 10/5/05; U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs Press Release, 6/23/05; Office of Sen. Patty Murray; Tacoma News Tribune, 6/29/05]

And I haven’t even begun to examine the sudden — so fast that their faces are squished into the windshield — twists that congressional Republicans are making to divorce themselves from drilling in ANWR, cutting taxes on the rich, and decimating important government programs. Heck, next thing you know they might be calling for less pork in the budget and passing a law saying that only Congress can declare war!
Even here in Cawl-ee-fohnia, our esteemed Governator (I was watching a Margaret Cho video today, and she summed it up by saying Arnold Schwarzenegger is the GOVERNOR. We were not punk’d. HE IS the governor. But I digress.) is making one of those on-a-dime flip flops himself, suddenly being all lovey-dovey with the nurses that he’s been dissing for all this time, suddenly deciding that he will work with the legislature instead of fighting against them and spending millions on special elections to go around them… I wonder if he thinks now that he should have signed that same-sex civil unions bill?
Anyway. See why I can’t manage to touch on everything? I’d never be away from the computer. Not one single second. Ever.
