Let me preface this by saying that I won’t even bother to come up with a good excuse or justification for what I did; I expend too much energy trying to do that and frankly, I’m an adult.
That said, I bought another iPod.
Stop it.
So, anyway. I was at the Apple Store, and the line was out the door — Apple is doing quite well for itself with these stores, aren’t they? But those people in line were buying computers and other gadgets, not, as I’d expected, iPods. No, Apple was quite smart with a new retail innovation: an iPod store within the store. Yes, one of the little alcoves to the side is roped off and the shelf is stocked full with every model of iPod. A screen displays the current availability of the little music players, so you don’t have to waste your time. If you want to buy one, you just tell the staff person which you want, he swipes your credit card, and you’re out of there. Your receipt is emailed to you.
So, they made it so damned easy that I picked up a new iPod with video, and was out of the store in about 2 minutes flat.
Now, I’m having trouble filling it. This is the first “large” iPod I’ve ever had — I bought the first model, the mini, and the nano; they all had 4GB. This new one has 60GB, and I didn’t realize how truly huge that is. Right now, I’ve got my entire music library on it as well as video that I ripped in anticipation of two cross-country plane flights at Christmas:
- Two seasons of Absolutely Fabulous
- All 72 episodes of Futurama
- The movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
- The 2005 series of Doctor Who
- 23 episodes of One Foot In The Grave
- 12 episodes of Grace and Favour
And I still haven’t used up half of the space.
The iPod taunts me with its capacity and I shall prevail. It may take some time, but I will fill it.
Yet another reason verizon sucks: It is now December. I moved in August. I am still receiving bills from Verizon and I have been on hold for over 11/2 hours with Verizon billing this morning waiting to get someone who is willing to deal with the problem.
