Yes, tomorrow morning will bring us another Steve Jobs keynote, and strangely, the rumor sites seem to be rather low key. Among the predictions are an Intel-based iBook or Mac Mini, as well as some kind of Mini-based media center. Another rumor says that Apple will release a new video service based around the .Mac suite; full-length movies are rumored to be available for the iPod.
I have to point out that I put 4 full-length (90-100 minute) movies on my iPod, and the battery conked out just as I got to the end of one. Apple will have to increase battery life on a iPod video before they start releasing movies.
One site says that Apple will release plasma displays; I think this is far fetched.
I do hope there is a new laptop that offers some compelling features; my PowerBook — while only 2 years old — is beginning to fail, and has some bad cosmetic problems (pitted aluminum, separating case, warped lid). This is my second PowerBook, and both have had horrible problems with the casing. I’ll be switching to an iBook when they update them — plastic just doesn’t have the problems that the metal does.
As is the new normal, Apple won’t be broadcasting the keynote. I think they’re doing this deliberately to provoke a sense of curiosity and revving people up to find out what’s happening. It’s how they create a cult brand.
