In today’s Washington Post, there’s an article by William Booth complaining about San Francisco’s obsession with the 100th anniversary of the earthquake, which was less than a week ago. It claims that San Francisco is a city “obsessed with itself,” a description that describes DC to a “T”.
Despite their annoyance at such obsessive commemoration, washingtonpost.com still features, prominently, a large graphic linking to a video of the Reagan assassination attempt and below that a box containing 25th anniversary stories, video, gallery, and links. That anniversary was back in March.
I was tired of living in a place that took itself as seriously as DC does, and while San Francisco may be obsessed with itself, at least it is not to the extent of DC, a city that has a huge monument up its ass.
Somehow, after 6 years in California and damn annoyed at the self-obsession — SF, Berkeley, Oakland — I thought, hey, I’ll move to DC. I’d gone to school in Virginia, I can handle it.
Egad. I forgot.
So yeah, I thought the whole pot calling the kettle black thing was pretty damn funny too.
