With language.
Conservatives, like most fascist groups, use the power of language to evoke an emotional response, repeating their talking points over and over and over until they are treated as fact. You can’t escape them, you can’t quiet them. They twist language, coin misleading phrases (“death tax,” anyone?) and make the sublime into the pejorative.
And eventually, their hateful slang makes it into the mainstream without anyone noticing.
But I notice.
Like I noticed today.
The New York Times, of all places, in their election results coverage names the parties as such: “Republican” and “Democrat.”
They’ve capitulated to the Republican pejorative “Democrat” with its hard stop rather than the correct moniker, “Democratic.”
Another victory for the Karl Rove master plan.
