Just As I Thought

How many inches until they plow?

Fark notes that a TV station in North Carolina recently implemented some kind of system that allows anyone to post a snow-related closing to be displayed on their station.

I’ll bet they’re not congratulating themselves on their public service right now.

Just as an aside, can I mention that I really like the graphics on this station? I’m always disappointed at the poor design of the TV stations here in Washington, one of the largest TV markets. It always seems that podunk stations out there in Hicksville always have a much slicker on-air look.

  • I’m sure that you didn’t mean to imply that the capital city of North Carolina, Raleigh (home of News 14 Carolina, population approx. 300000, is a “podunk station out there in Hicksville.” Considering that it is surrounded by several top tier universities (Duke and UNC-CH, to name two) and home to the Research Triangle Park, it’s not exactly populated by uneducated country bumpkins.

The screen shot is funny, though …

  • Nope – Raleigh is definitely not hicksville, and I didn’t mean to imply that. In fact, I was thinking about stations in places like Cape Girardeau, MO and other tiny, tiny towns that have great graphics. I should have been more specific when I added that postscript.
