Just As I Thought

Truth from the Vatican… and consequences

The Vatican is expected to release a new directive in the coming weeks banning all homosexuals from serving in the priesthood. This includes “celibate” homosexuals.
Now, I generally come to what I feel are logical conclusions when fundamentalist conservative zealots start to speak — and although I know that logic has little to do with their activities, I feel compelled to point out the major shock in this, one that I’m sure few people notice:
The people who love to hate gay people use as their excuse the idea that homosexual people choose that orientation, that if they don’t hate gay people, they just hate the act. That being gay is all about having sex with the same gender.
So, this directive from the Vatican is shocking because it bans celibate homosexuals. Well, if being homosexual is a choice, and you choose not to have sex with the same gender, you must not be homosexual anymore! So, why the distinction from the Vatican?
Because they are tacitly admitting that homosexuality is not a choice, that even if you are celibate you are still gay.
This is a milestone in gay civil rights, but I’ll bet that few people will ever take note of it.
I took note of it, and thought to myself that it makes the Vatican’s move even more reprehensible. Here they are, admitting that being gay is something that is not necessarily a choice… and still discriminating on the basis of it. You know, the way they do with women.
God, save me from your followers.
