Again, an “event” movie I tuned in to watch in High Definition on our local ABC affiliate… isn’t. There seems to be some difficulty at WJLA in the button-pushing needed to pass through the high definition feed of “The Music Man” from the network, just as there was last month with “The Sound of Music”. So, despite the “In HDTV” note on the WJLA and ABC websites, I’m watching a low-def square picture on my expensive widescreen HDTV, recording it on a $20 D-VHS tape on a $1000 HD-VCR. What a waste.
[7:30pm Update: Did I complain too fast? Or about the wrong thing? I managed to tune in the Baltimore ABC affiliate, who are also not broadcasting this movie in HD. Perhaps the fault lies in the ABC website, which has an HDTV tag for the film in error? Still, it points to an HD or not HD dilemma – what’s on and when? There are a few HDTV listing services, but they aren’t always complete or accurate. I guess you just have to tune in and hope for the best, but don’t expect to be able to plan your HD viewing…]
