The guy with the tractor has come out of the pond. He held Washington in his grip for 48 hours, through 4 rush hour cycles. Perhaps he took President Bush at his word and surrendered at the last moment before the troops rushed in to liberate the ducks and fish that populate Constitution Gardens.
A non-violent end. Good. Glad to hear it.
But now the recriminations will begin – how did a guy in a tractor sitting in 6 inches of water manage to bring the entire metro region to a halt, while law enforcement just sat back and waited him out? Hey, guys – it wasn’t just law enforcement, it was ALL of us waiting. In traffic. Boxed in. Tied up. Immobile. Vulnerable.
