Just As I Thought

Monica on the tube… so to speak

Speaking of TV, is the proliferation of such utter crap and borderline pornography sending us a signal that the end of civilization is coming? Guess what Fox has up it’s sleeve now, according to Lisa de Moraes in the Washington Post:

Monica Lewinsky, the former presidential mistress who alternately runs from and toward celebrity, has signed to host Fox’s next reality series, “Mr. Personality.”

In “Mr. Personality,” a young, beautiful single woman will court several eligible men who must rely strictly on their personalities to captivate her. That’s because each man will have some sort of mask or hood on throughout the “dating” process.

Which is okay because, as Ms. Lewinsky can attest, personality is mostly from the waist down.
Fox is such a bizarre, two-headed monster. It’s owned by an extreme right-winger, produces a news channel so slanted to the right that the cameras are balancing precariously and about to fall over, and filled with pundits who yammer on about “family values” and the like. And they air programs that are so offensive and unfriendly to families. I just don’t understand. Don’t you think they should lead by example?

Speaking of family friendly TV, I have to put in a plug for ABC’s “Life With Bonnie.” I started watching this show because I love Bonnie Hunt, and was surprised to find it a very gentle comedy with a lot of family content. The show is partially improvisational, and sometimes very, very funny. The beginning and end are set at home with family. And last week’s episode included a subplot about the friend of her children that took some items from their house – as it turns out, to comfort him and help him sleep when he goes home to a less idyllic environment. Bonnie’s reaction was sweet and kind. We need more shows like this instead of crap like “Oliver Beene” and “Malcolm in the Middle.” I say, move “Bonnie” to 8pm and shove the other two into late night hell.
