RICHMOND, March 22 — Gov. Mark R. Warner signed legislation today prohibiting illegal immigrants from obtaining Virginia driver’s licenses, a law that he said was an “appropriate” precaution against terrorists but which Latinos and other minorities denounced as discriminatory.
Of course it’s discriminatory. It discriminates between those who are lawful and those who are not.
If you are not a legal resident of this country, you have no right to a license.
Maryland lawmakers could be headed in the opposite direction as their counterparts in Virginia. A proposal backed by Latino advocates is pending in the Maryland General Assembly that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.
I’m incredulous. There is a reason they’re called illegal immigrants! The Latino lobby is basically claiming that it’s racist to treat illegal immigrants as if they are criminals – which they are! You cannot simply enter a country illegally, then expect that country to treat you like you were born there, demanding all the rights of a citizen without also taking on the responsibilities.
No. No drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. Drivers licenses are not a “human right.”
