WRC-TV is currently airing a story patting themselves on the back, with a police spokesman saying that they have arrested suspects in a bank robbery because of a story aired on Channel 4’s news. Then they spend a few moments telling us what they’re going to tell us at 6. They often hold back parts of the story so that you’ll have to wait until the next newscast to learn the rest. Channel 4 can stretch a story from 4pm to 11pm sometimes.
Let’s quickly run down the different kinds of “news” you’ll get in Washington:
WRC-TV News 4: “We make news, so that we can report it.”
WTTG Fox 5: “All the news there is to know about American Idol.”
WJLA News 7: “We’ll tell you if it’s raining on your street.”
WUSA 9 News: “That’s our story, and we’re sticking with it.”
Thank goodness for BBC News.
