It’s been a bad week for facts.
A few days ago the media reported on a horrific mid-air accident in which a cargo plane over The Congo depressurized, sucking victims out of the plane to their deaths. But the story seems to have faded away. Could it be because they’re having trouble figuring out just whether it happened?
A few claim that more than 200 were killed. [news24.com]
Some outlets claim up to 170 people were killed. [BBC]
Some say 7 were killed. [Toronto Star]
And – get this – some say there were NO victims. [Pravda]
I wonder if we will ever know the extent of this incident, or will the media just move on? Following up on reports is not their strong suit these days.
