Hmm. The National Bureau of Economic Research announced today that the recession that began in March 2001 ended the following November. It took them until July 2003 to make this determination.
Well, the Bush economic wizards have been blaming September 11 for the recession – now it turns out that the recession ended soon thereafter. Tomorrow, you’ll see the Bush administration claiming that their tax cuts are responsible for this “good news”.
The Bush administration consistently plays the blame game for everything. They’ve never owned up to anything themselves, always pointing out who else and what else is to blame for problems. They trot out a dozen different possibilities to explain away everything — this is why they can now claim that nuclear weapons was not the only justification for their rush to war.
Their claim that September 11 was to blame for the bad economy always annoyed me, and now it’s been debunked more or less. What will be their next claim? (Perhaps they can tell the truth – the incredible fictitious economy under the Clinton administration that was based on dotcoms and fairytales… which, these days, looks infinitely preferable.)
I don’t have a clue what this entry was about. Sorry.
