Have I not spent enough money on their gadgets? Does their mercurial leader, the great Jobs, have some vendetta against me? Did I not buy enough Macs — the 512K, the SE, the $6,000 “Portable”, the Quadra, the Powerbook 100, the Quadra AV, the PowerMac G3, the PowerMac G4, the other PowerMac G4, the iBook, the iPod, the iSight, the PowerBook G4? Not enough? Cripes. You don’t see me buying cars the way I buy computers, but Toyota certainly treats me better.
I’ve already chronicled the loss of my iBook (which STILL has not been resolved – the Apple guy who’s supposed to be “investigating” it won’t return my calls) and the shipment of my PowerBook to a complete stranger; now they’re dissing me on my software purchases.
A while ago I ordered a copy of DVD Studio Pro, the upgrade to the professional-level DVD authoring software I use. I’m in the middle of a big DVD project and it would be helpful to get this soon so I can begin my final work.
Well, it was released finally on the 18th. I wondered where it was, and discovered they had changed my order ship date to “on or before August 20.”
Well, August 20 rolled around. My friend Jann reported that he had already received his — even though he ordered it about two weeks later than I did.
Well, after waiting all day to figure out what happened, Apple sent me a little e-mail telling me that my order will be shipped NEXT WEEK. They hope.
What the hell is the deal? Seems like they are back to old tricks — promising amazing things then having trouble delivering.
Is it just me?
(Update, August 22: Not only did my copy of DVD Studio Pro arrive this afternoon unexpectedly, but a very helpful guy with the very cool name of Ayn Czubas at Apple contacted me when I couldn’t get hold of the guy who was supposed to be helping me with the iBook. He clued me in on what was happening and assured me that a replacement iBook has been ordered for me. I may possibly receive it tomorrow. Three cheers for Ayn! [I *have* to remember that name, it’s way cool. Love it.])
Working at Circuit City and witnessing the hourly migration of PC buyers (a.k.a. fodder) with problems with thier HP’s, Compaqs, Toshibas and even Sony Vaios- I’d have to say that in relaitive measures your deal is really small potatoEs.
Still has to piss you off however…
On the other end of things, I decided to take Apple up on their offer to send them a copy of Adobe Premiere and get a copy of Final Cut Express free. I sent it to them last Saturday and it arrived by UPS today, despite the usual “6 to 8 weeks” notice. Different vendor from the one with your Powerbook, of course.
