Microsoft, Google could cook up deal
That Microsoft (MSFT) approached Google to discuss a possible merger underscores a stark fact for the No. 1 software maker: It is playing catch-up in a three-company race for the popular Web search market.

Several months ago, Microsoft approached Google about an acquisition. Google passed, though the companies may work out their first partnership, say sources familiar with the talks. Google and Microsoft declined comment.

I don’t even have the energy to comment on a potential Microsoft ownership of Google.
