Heck, they should just open it up to the public again — the President is rarely there.
Evidently, he’s spent 200 days of his term in Crawford, Texas (clearing brush… there’s an awful lot of dead wood on his ranch). That’s more than seven months, about one in five days. (Stats from the Washington Post.)
Why doesn’t the seat of the Presidency just shift around to wherever the President lives? Think of it this way: we currently bear the costs of TWO Presidential compounds, one in DC and one in Texas. We’re paying for all that security and infrastructure. Why not just do away with all the White House stuff and concentrate on the President’s personal abode?
