I think that HDTV has finally come of age: as I was just watching “Judging Amy” in high definition, CBS scrunched the picture up to update viewers on the Super Tuesday primary results — in HD! as far as I can tell, this is the first time this has happened. Usually the HD feed never includes this kind of thing, it’s always been a “pure” picture without all the clutter and nonsense that appears in the standard version.
On one hand, I’m happy that the networks are beginning to switch to HD in all aspects of their program production. On the other hand, this means that it’s only a matter of time before the HD feeds begin to be cluttered with all those obnoxious overlaid graphics telling us what we’re watching and what big reality show is coming up this week.
