There’s a report this morning that NPR has been conducting phone polling on the imminent ouster of Bob Edwards.
Was the survey an indication that NPR is reconsidering its March 23 decision, which has prompted a flood of complaints to its offices? Not at all, NPR PR-woman Jessamyn Sarmiento said yesterday. “We did polling prior to making the decision, we’re doing polling now. We conduct polls on a variety of things.”
An amused Edwards, reached at his home in Arlington, knew nothing about it. “Amazing!” he told The Post’s Jennifer Frey, chuckling. But despite the outpouring of public support he has received (and persistent hopeful rumors that NPR may reverse course) Edwards is resigned. “I discount all rumors,” he said.
I must say that I’m quite happy to learn that Bob lives in Arlington, a neighbor, as it were. That makes me feel a little better — maybe one day I’ll see him at the grocery store and ask him to say “From NPR News, this is Morning Edition.” Just for old time’s sake.
