Just As I Thought

Consolidating power

Underreported.com poses an important question: did the founders mean for the executive branch to wield so much power?

The “organization chart” of the U.S. government below comes from page 19 of the GAO 2003 Financial Report of the United States Government.

Did the original drafters of the U.S. Constitution intend for the Executive Branch to have so much power?

This is why “Executive Orders” are so prevalent now. The Executive Branch has control — via Executive Orders — over just about all the U.S. Government departments and branches, some of which were created by executive order. That’s not to mention all the “special committees” shown itemized in the big box at the bottom.

Of course, it doesn’t help that Congress keeps handing over more and more of their powers to the president, that the president installs more and more of his cronies in the other branches. It’s only a short time before there are no checks or balances left, and the president is an emperor… or dictator.
