Gee, it seems like only days ago that I was singing the praises of our new Target. But then… dum dum DUM… I stopped by tonight.
They charge for parking.
That’s right. A cringe-inducing $3 for the first 30 minutes. $30 if you lose your ticket! The first 90 minutes is free… if you spend $20. I had to hunt around to find things to buy, because I had no cash with me. Extortion.
Listen, Target. Skyline — where Fairfax County, Alexandria, and Arlington County meet — is hardly a downtown, limited parking location. We’re in the burbs. Right across the street are vast and empty parking lots of two strip shopping centers. Charging people for the privilege of shopping at a brand new Target when there are two others just a few miles away is ludicrous, and making people wait in a long line to get out of the parking lot is just torture.
Judging from the incredibly light traffic in the store, they must be trying to make up the money in the parking lot.
