So, Cingular today launched a service on its mobile phones for video — you can watch news, sports, entertainment, etc. on your tiny little phone screen.
Okay, well, this sounds rather cool at first until you realize how much cash you’re going to shovel out for tiny, pixellated, jerky video: it costs $9.99 a month for the TV service. But it’s also a data service, so you not only pay monthly but also for the amount of data received. They recommend that you get an unlimited data service on your phone, which is $19.99 per month. $30 a month just for the video service… basic cable is cheaper than that. Hell, I don’t even pay that much for my main telephone.
Considering how saturated our culture and landscape is with TV, I don’t think I’ll be shoveling out more dough just to watch “selected” stuff on my phone. Especially considering how poor my reception is.
