The saga continues:
Evidently, the reason that Verizon never showed up is that they cancelled the installation… 3 days ago.
We seem to be back to the same problem I’ve had for years: there are no “ILEC” facilities available at my central office, so they can’t provision a line to my house. Now, I’ve lived here for almost 7 years, you’d think in that time this affluent neighborhood would have gotten the equipment necessary for DSL and other data services… but hey, it’s Verizon.
As late as 1pm, I called Speakeasy to ask if they had any clue when the guy was coming. They looked up my account, and told me “between 9am and 5pm.”
They told me this even though the installation had been cancelled on the 4th, with no notification to me.
It turns out that’s because Verizon didn’t notify Speakeasy/Covad until after 2pm Eastern time. As soon as they heard about it, they added it to my installation update page.
I’m furious at having wasted a day waiting, and I’m furious that Verizon can’t manage to bring any decent level of communications technology to my neighborhood. I have well and truly learned my lesson. If Verizon is involved in any way, shape, or form, you’re sure to get screwed.
So much for my fun plans for more bandwidth. This has been a monumentally disappointing week for me, I’ll tell you more about the other disappointments later.
