Just As I Thought

Learn from the past

I hate to rehash old lies, but remember when the White House constantly harped that they simply couldn’t have ever imagined that someone would fly planes into buildings? Even after a CIA briefing weeks before warned of that very thing?
Well, I was watching a documentary today about the White House and its occupants, featuring readings of letters and documents. I was surprised at the contents of one of them. From a Secret Service memorandum to the White House, December 1941:

The following are recommendations for immediate precautions to be taken to ensure a maximum of safety to the occupants of the White House.

It is recommended that the roof of the White House be painted with a dark paint … The possibility of a flyer deliberately crashing his aircraft loaded with explosives has to be considered… It is our opinion that the White House would probably be one of the first buildings to be attacked, and that such a hit would cause the White House to collapse.

Sixty years ago, we were warned of the possibility. I think that our current administration would do well to learn from the past, eh?
