I was listening to Julia Sweeney’s “Letting Go of God” (listen here), where she points out a rather interesting tidbit from the book of Revelation: when the end comes, only 144,000 people will be saved… and none of them will have “defiled themselves with women.”
So, this means that every fundamentalist bigot — from Fred Phelps all the way to John Ashcroft — is not going to get into the kingdom of heaven.
In fact, what this says to me is that gay men are the ones who will be saved.
Interesting that they’re the ones bearing the brunt of the religious right’s fire and brimstone. Maybe the fundies are just jealous that we’re the ones who will be saved?
Humm, but what if you were with a really effeminate gay man. Wouldn’t that count?
