Remember way back in 2003, when Arnold Schwarzenegger was swept into office by a carefully choreographed Republican coup? The big issue they used to recall Gray Davis was the fiscal mess — the huge deficit and enormous government spending. There was an $8 billion shortfall.
Like many other flip-flopping Republicans, Arnold has changed his stripes. He announced yesterday that he is calling for an incredible 10-year spending plan, with $222 billion in spending, to be followed by $68 billion in debt.
When did Republicans stop learning simple math? I have a feeling that despite all the attacks on individual liberties and the culture wars, the one major thing that this decade’s Republican rule will be remembered for is the insurmountable debt they left behind.
Say one thing, and do exactly the opposite. Remind you of anybody?
