Just As I Thought

The San Easy

Wow — I guess I should be happy that I didn’t buy that loft smack dab in the middle of downtown:

San Jose’s Mardi Gras celebration took a disturbing turn for the wild early Wednesday as scores of officers in riot gear worked to quell downtown’s rowdy revelers, who were smashing car windows, blocking intersections and overturning news racks.

There were at least eight arrests as of 10 p.m., for offenses including narcotics and probation violations as well as public intoxication, but police were unable to provide an updated count after midnight.

San Jose fire officials reported three assaults and two stabbings.

… Several cars on Fourth Street had their windows broken, and during one disturbance at Second and Santa Clara streets, officers on horseback and motorcycle — and lit up by a helicopter overhead — worked to disperse hundreds of people who had gathered after a woman flashed some skin.

The saddest thing about this? Not only did I not know that there was a party downtown, I was in bed at 9:00 last night.
